Acoma Language Retention Program
The Acoma Language Retention Program is a community based program located east of the Public Safety Facility in Acomita, NM. The program was established 12 years ago, is endorsed and supported by the Acoma Tribal Administration and Tribal Council.
The primary goal of ALRP is to revitalize and maintain the Acoma Keres language in our community for future generations. The program focuses efforts in teaching the Keres language to children through Keres language instruction in the various local schools; Laguna-Acoma Jr. Sr. High School, Cubero Elementary School, St. Joseph Mission School and Sky City Community School.
ALRP is a non-profit status program which depends on Tribal Appropriations as well as grant opportunities through state, federal and private foundations. The program has developed an Acoma Oral History Curriculum and various arts and crafts classes for youth and adults through grant funds.
Three week Keres language immersion camps are offered in the summer for children ages 5 – 16 years old.
Basic Adult Language Classes are offered to community members on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
